Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Regular dance classes start at just $58 per month for one class per week. Music & Voice classes start at $120 per month.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We are located in Gilbert, on the southeast corner of Guadalupe & Gilbert Road in the "Big Lots" shopping center.

Q: What do I wear to class?

A: For your first class it is fine for you to just wear comfortable clothing and bare feet. You can then purchase the proper dancewear and shoes for your specific class once you are enrolled. For your convenience, our in-studio boutique carries all required dancewear and shoes for all classes.

Q: Why does my child have to conform to a specific dress code in Ballet class?

A: For proper dance education, it is important that all students dress in the appropriate attire for each specific class. Ballet in particular involves very detailed body movements and placement. Having all students dressed to a standard makes it possible for the instructor to more easily notice incorrect positions and movements to make the appropriate corrections before any "bad habits" are formed.

Q: What are your typical class sizes?

A: We limit the size of all of our classes based on the age and ability of the students to insure that each student receives the highest quality of dance education.

Q: Do you have a recital?

A: We offer a professional "Broadway" style production in June every year at the Chandler Center for the Arts.

Q: Are there any additional costs?

A: Each student is required to purchase a costume for the production at $110 ($90 for 5 years and younger) as well as a $50 production fee.

Q: What types of costumes do you have?

A: All of our production costumes are in a conservative style and are professionally made, with all fittings and alterations included.

Q: What is the production fee for?

A: The production fee helps to cover the cost of the venue, scenery, props, programs, and other various production costs.

Q: Can I take pictures during the production?

A: Picture and video taking is allowed during the full dress rehearsal on the day prior to the actual production.

Q: Are you closed for vacations or during holidays?

A: We typically follow the Gilbert School District Holiday schedule. These and other closures are listed on our Events Calendar page.

Q: Do I pay the same amount per month even when there are fewer classes?

A: Yes, our tuition is based on the full dance season and is divided into equal monthly payments for your convenience.

Q: How old does my child need to be to take dance classes?

A: Students can start as young as two years of age in our "combination" classes which include Ballet, Tap and Tumbling.

Q: Do you have classes on Saturday?

A: Yes, our regular class schedule includes many Saturday classes.

Q: Do I have to sign a contract?

A: No, tuition is paid on a month to month basis. We do require a 30 day written notice for withdrawing from a class.

Q: What dance styles do you teach?

A: Our current class schedule includes Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Tumbling, Cheer, Musical Theater and Voice.

Q: What experience do your instructors have?

A: All of our classes are taught by university trained instructors. Some classes may also include a student assistant under the direction of the instructor.

Q: What type of music do you use?

A: We utilize a variety of music from classical to Broadway to modern pop. All of our music and choreography is age appropriate with "clean" lyrics and movements.

Q: Do you perform in competitions?

A: Our Dance Elite company performs at a variety of events throughout the year and may participate in a few competitions per year but we are not a "competition school".

Q: How do I join Dance Elite?

A: Open auditions for Dance Elite are held every year in May or June and also individually throughout the year.

Q: Are your classes just training for your production?

A: Good technique and quality education are always our highest priority. All of our regular classes are primarily focused on technique and general dance education as well as some exciting choreography. The focus naturally shifts more towards choreography as the production nears.

Q: Do you offer private lessons?

A: Yes, we offer private lessons by appointment singularly, or in small groups to work on a special number or technique. We also offer Private Lessons in Music and Voice including Piano & Guitar.

Q: How long have you been in business?

A: Wagner Dance & Music has been open since 1989 providing Arizona's finest dance and music education.
